About the Mediator

Rosemarie Bruno, JD, LCSW

My mediation practice focuses on providing mediation and collaborative legal services in divorce, parenting, and custody disputes. I have been providing mediation and collaborative services on Long Island since 2007.  I am educated and trained in law, mediation, collaborative law, divorce financial analysis, clinical social work, financial social work, and conflict coaching.

In addition to running a law practice, my previous legal experience includes working as an Associate at a large commercial and insurance law firm on Long Island and as a law clerk for a US Bankruptcy Court judge in the Eastern District of New York.  My clinical social work experience includes running a private clinical practice, as well as having previously worked for a NY State mental health clinic and a local private clinical practice providing mental health services to individuals, couples, and families.

In my mediation practice, I have helped hundreds of couples to settle marital, parenting, and property disputes that have often included complex parenting and financial issues.  My diverse training and background give me a unique perspective on issues that arise in marital disputes and the ability to approach mediation and collaborative services from a multidimensional framework, which helps me to guide clients through the emotional and financial turmoil that frequently accompany martial separation and divorce.

Court Admissions, Professional Licenses & Certifications:

I am admitted to practice law in the State of New York, the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, the United States Supreme Court, and the United States Tax Court.  I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of New York.

My Education:
I received a Juris Doctor degree, summa cum laude, from Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, in 2002, where I graduated second in my class. While at Touro, I served as Editor-in-Chief of the Touro Law Review.

In addition to a law degree, I have a Master of Social Work degree from  Stony Brook University, where I also received a Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with a major in Psychology.

I have also earned a Graduate Certificate in Counseling, with a focus on Marriage and Family Systems, from Capella University, and a Graduate Certificate in Conflict and Dispute Resolution from Missouri State University.

Training and Certifications:

I received basic mediation training from the New York State Unified Court System's Certified Mediation Training program.  I received additional training in divorce mediation from the Ackerman Institute for the Family in Manhattan.  I have also been trained as a Collaborative Lawyer by the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals, in conjunction with The Center for Mediation in Law.

I was trained as a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst by the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts, where I gained in-depth knowledge of the intricacies of all of the financial aspects of divorce, including detailed knowledge of retirement plan asset divisions.

I was also trained as a Certified Financial Social Worker by the Center for Financial Social Work, where I gained a deeper understanding of the issues underlying the financial difficulties experienced by many individuals and families.

Finally, as a Certified Professional Coach, I received additional training in conflict management coaching from CINERGY, and my coaching practice currently focuses on conflict coaching, during which I help parties to mediation, or any other dispute, learn to manage conflict more effectively.
